Matemaatika

Matemaatika is the Estonian word for mathematics. When I started elementary school I spoke only Estonian, having been home schooled until I was six years old. Similar to many other ESL students my best subjects were arithmetic and art, which rely less than other study areas on language skills. It has been a long-time goal of mine to create paintings that reflect both of these interests. At the outset there was no intention of creating op art or kinetic art, but I let the painting process lead to the look. It seems very appropriate that the paintings ended up reflecting a style that was pioneered in the 1960’s when I was attending elementary school.
