Turmoil

These paintings represent our turbulent world. In spite of the dark negative space and sometimes chaotic mark-making they are visually appealing and often retain a sense of optimism. The paint is applied with several tools and creates intense depth and spontaneity through partially overlapping layers. Various pieces develop the story by introducing different palettes and application techniques. These differences lead to a spectrum of implications for the future. The muted colours in some hint at a future possibly dystopic world while others almost seem to vibrate, evoking the excitement and uncertainty of rapid technological change. The thick paint on many of them creates fascinating reflected light.
